IT ALL STARTED WITH WILMA
The late Wilma Campbell founded the Dancing Deputies just four years after the Charlotte Frontier Days Festival began. Wilma thought it was always fun but the festival was lacking some sort of entertainment. She took it upon herself and gathered former dancers and choreographed routines, sewed costumes, and created the now renowned "Dancing Deputies" group. Wilma's sister, Lucille Tuckey, provided accompaniment and often could be seen dressing the part of a saloon hall girl herself as she played the piano. In those days, the piano traveled on the float with the dance team as well.

ALONG CAME LORI
As the years rolled by, Wilma's daughter Lori found her passion in teaching as well. She eventually took over the group and studio as a whole, continuing her family's small town tradition. Although Lori retired Campbell Dance studio in 2019, the "Dancing Deputies" are proud to continue this special group.
What was once just a thought turned into something much bigger. From sewing sequins onto a costume to having local sponsors; the Dancing Deputies are proud to be from Charlotte!

KEEPING THE TRADITION ALIVE
The cast of the group has changed from year to year, but is beyond excited to celebrate their 50th year of existence! Today, the group consists of women that grew up dancing at Campbell Dance Studio.
They're currently practicing and preparing, and can't wait to see you at 2025 Charlotte Frontier Days!
